Ray Willick and Rob Hyatt Dominate at PortLoring
With the hot weather leading up to the Tournament and then a fast drop in tempreture and a thunder storm the night before
the Tournament, most anglers knew this would be a tough one to win. The water tempreture the 2 weeks before the event was 83
degrees, then started to come down to 77 degrees closer to the event, which started to bring the fish back up out of thier
hidding places to feed, but a hard rain and thunder & lightning storm changed all that in one night. Alot of the fish where
still active but the big ones would be harder to find.
Even a couple of seasoned pro,s like Ray Willick and Rob Hyatt from North Bay who spent the time and money pre fishing said they could
not find any of thier fish in the morning and at 12 oclock decided to change tactics and go for some Largemouths they
found a few weeks earlyer. This would be the right move for the team as they would bring 19lbs to the scale which would
give them almost a 5lb lead and the 1st place spot. Ray and Rob said they know this water pretty well and there are lots
of big fish, but this is one of those years where you have to have alot of spots and some times thats not even enough.

I dont know what it is about husband and wife teams but I think the fish just love lady anglers. Devin Van Derstracten
from Kitchener decided to bring his wife Melissa to the Tournament, knowing that all our lady anglers are fish magnets, and that I have
a hard time beating them. No matter what the reason Devin made the right choice, because the team caught 14.52lbs which
would give them the 2cd place win. Melissa said she had a hard time catching all the fish all day while Devin just sat in
the back eating all thier lunch, but asked me not to say anything so you know me,, I won't..

One of the greatest things about the Temiskaming Smallmouth Bass Series is that we have more husband and wife teams fishing
the Series than any other Tournament Series I know of, and the other great thing is we also have more young anglers
fishing in the Series also. Our hope is that these young anglers will learn great ethic,s and sportsmanship here, carry on long
after we have gone, and keep this sport alive. Glenn Thompson from Sudbury is teaching young Eric Champagne from Sudbury
what Tournament fishing is all about, and Eric must be learning pretty good, because the team brought 14.10lbs to the scales
to take 3rd place this weekend, and I,am pretty sure Eric thinks thats ok .

Now when teams come from long distances they usualy spend alot of money to fish the Series, so when I heard that Bob Haynes
and Gary Janes where coming from Orilla and Fort Erie I asked everybody to let them catch the big fish of the day so that
they could at least get gas money, and by jorge if they didn't. The team not only got big fish weighing 5.26lbs plus
4th place, with 13.74lbs total

Rounding out the top 8 where
5th place Des & Sue Connelly with 12.28lbs
6th place Pattrick & Eric Bazinet with 11.88lbs
7th place Darren Joiner & Paul Douma with 11.88lbs
8th place Howard & Mike Gifford with 11.58lbs
The new weigh in holding system for the Series which was desined by Armond Michauville worked like a charm. This allowed
for a slower weigh in, which in turn slowed down anglers from crowding the scales causing a back up that puts thier fish
in danger of dying and keeps fish in the anglers live wells, until it was thier turn to weigh in.
This set up can only be used at certin sites until we can afford more things needed , (BUT) from now on anglers will only
be allowed to bring thier bags of fish to the scales one at a time when called. We also had traffic controle, picture
takers, stats help, all from different anglers and friends, which made things run smoothly and effectivly. I would like to
thank everyone who donated thier time to make this run perfectly.
