Mother and Son claim Temiskaming Smallmouth Bass Victory on Lake Temiskaming

July 9th

It is a rare thing to see a mother spend her weekends taking her sons to fishing Tournaments all over the north, just because the boys love to fish, especially when they are traveling all the way from Ottawa. Now the boys definitely have the Bass bug, so sure as shootin the little Bass bug slowly got hold of mom too, and wul'lah, mom wanted to try it for herself. So Sam and Joel split up this weekend so Elisa could fish her first Bass Tournament with Sam. Now I warned you all how dangerous, lady anglers can be, and sure enough Elisa not only caught the big fish weighing 3.98lbs, but her and Sam came back with 16.16lbs to capture the 1st place win and all the cash, trophies, and most important, the bragging rights for Lake Temiskaming.

Now some people are just going to say "OH THEY JUST GOT LUCKY" well they would be 50% right, because fishing any Tournament is 50% luck, no matter who you are. After that its around 25% finding the fish, 10% knowing what to use,and 10% presintation and 5% equipment. On top of all this you better have confidence in what you are doing, the rest my friend, is up to the fish.

Sam and Joel Lauzon, who are great young fishing Ambassadors for Shimano, and conduct themselves in a professional, and curteous manner on and off the water, and I would think it has alot to do with thier upbringing by their mother Elisa Berstein, and we are proud to have the whole family fishing in the Series and we congradulate them on beating some of the best anglers on this water.

Kirkland Lake has produced alot of great anglers, and the team of Darryl Dumas and Mike Verge are well known for thier angling skills. The team have steadly kept themselves in the running for the top spot many times before, and once again the team just could not find that one fish to take the lead on Temiskaming. Darryl and Mike brought 16.04lbs to the scales just 12oz,s from the leaders to take 2cd place. To alot of people this might seem to to be a bummer, but this weight gives the team a huge Angler of the Year lead in the points standings, and the team knows they still have 6 more Tournaments to fish before the Classic, which means there are lots of chances for a 1st place win.

The husband and wife team of Calven and Carole Neill, would take the 3rd place win with a weight of 15.92lbs.It seems every time we have a Tournament on Temiskaming Calven and Carol are in the running for top spot. I asked them how come they only got 3rd place, and Carole told me that they really did not want to beat us too bad, so they held off so we could have a chance. Now an't that just sweet of them to help out a pair of old timers.

Rounding off the Top 5 teams are.

4th place Gilbert and Rachel Maille with 12.lbs

5th place Jason and Tyler Mazzocatto with 11.50lbs.

I would like to thank Bastiens Beverages LTD, and Chartrands Independent Grocer for the pop and chips that we gave to all the little live release helpers and kids that took part in our quize.
