Schonfeldt and Breen Dominate on Lake Kenogami
On May 29th Temiskaming Smallmouth Bass Series moved to Lake Kenogami where the event was hosted by Kenogami Marine
and run out of Kenogami Bridge Inn. With 22 teams returning for the 2cd event of the year and the sun making a return
anglers where ready to get er done, as they say.
The water was around 54 to 56 degrees, which is 3 to 4 degrees colder than Sesikinika Lake, meaning the Bass had not even
started to make beds for the spawning season yet , so anglers would really have to be on the ball to catch fish today, "BUT"
the bigger the challenge the more you learn when it comes to Tournament fishing so everyone was reved to get going.
Most teams struggled to catch fish and some teams caught lots of fish but they were all smaller than they would need to win.
The team of Andrew Schonfeldt and Dennis Breen, from Kirkland Lake, said they spent half the day looking for good fish,
on the spots they knew with no luck, then the team just decided to start running to new spots fishing as fast as they could
trying different types of baits and lures in the hopes of catching a few good fish.
Slowly the team started to put a pattern together that worked out well for them as the team came to the scales at 3pm
with 5 fish that weighted in at 14.38lbs almost 3lbs ahead of any other team. This would give the team the $700 first
place cash award and 1st place plaques plus put them in good standings for the Angler of the Year race.

Once again John Sullivan and Gerry Anglicchio would take 2cd place with 11.46lbs giving the team another $420 and
2 back to back 2cd place wins.

Third place was won by the North Bay team of Les Deforest and Rodney Deforest with 10.88lbs. and received $280 plus
plaques. This is the first time on Lake Kenogami for Les and Rodney but I, am sure it won’t be the last.

Big Fish was won by Sue and Des Connelly from Temagami. The team only caught one fish all day but, it weighed
in at 3.70lbs which was good enough to take home the $220 big fish award.

Rounding out the top 6 place finishes are.
Forth place, Darryl Dumas and Mike Verge with 10.66lbs.
Fifth place, John Henderson and Don Chartrand with 10.52lbs.
Sixth place, Paul St Cyr and Lavergne with 9.62lbs.
I have been Tournament fishing for a long time, and I found this weekend hard fishing, but I, am really proud of
the new anglers who have just started fishing in these Tournaments, because every one of these teams caught fish under
the hardest of conditions you could have for someone new to Tournament fishing.
